Inspiration Calendar – Come fly with me!
March 12, 2010
Today’s Inspiration Combo was Cuffed Pants and Major Necklace. Unfortunately, when I checked my inventory, I had nothing.
You see, I just discovered all my cuff pants are (insert horror music here) – pleated. It gets worse – none of them are PPL (Proper Pants Length). A double fashion whammy.
And I’m still working through my own issues of wearing pants, as evident in the recent posts Oops I Did it Again, and yesterday’s post.
So I decided to reach for the one pair of pants that I feel hit the mark in every area:
-they are fashionable
-they have an AWESOME fit – flat -front waistband, they sit low on the hips.
-they are PPL!!
-they are made by quality designer Elie Tahari
These are actually part of a two-piece pants suit.
Price Breakdown:
Suit: Elie Tahari $29.99 (Fashion Junction)
Note – I just found this suit on-line (click here) the jacket is $298 and the pants are $148. Cha-ching!
Shirt: Cabi $1.00 at Bargain Basket Dollar Days sale.
Boots: $9.99 Goodwill
Total Cost: $40.89
The suit is awesome for all of the reasons I described above – the great fit, great designer, and great cost. The material is also cool – it’s kind of shiny with this pin-strip effect (I’m sure there’s a name for it, but I don’t know what it’s called.)
Let me tell you about the shirt. Now I know I have said many times before, “You can never be too thin, too rich or have too many white shirts….”
Well, this may be the perfect shirt to stop my need to keep buying them. It’s a zipper front and spandexy, so it’s always going to be crisp and form-fitting, and I don’t need to take it to the dry-cleaning to get it starched.
And get this – the brand is “Cabi”. Have you ever heard of Cabi? It’s one of those home personal shopper brands like Doncaster. Shirts sell for $60 – $70. And I snagged it for one dollar at the Dollar Days sale! Man, I love it when that happens….
Regarding the scarf – remember the combo from the Inspiration Calendar was “Cuffed Pants and Major Necklace”? Well, the collared shirt wasn’t conducive to highlighting a Major Necklace, so I compensated with a nice scarf to bring a pop of color. Aren’t I just Little Miss Fashion?
Unfortunately, though, this outfit is a good news/bad news story. The good news is, I love this suit, I love the shirt, and I love the scarf.
The bad news is, when they all come together, I look like a flight attendant.
That being said, I feel obligated to remind you to please be careful when checking the overhead bins, as items may have shifted during the flight. And thank you for flying Secondhand Air.

Clever girl, now get me some peanuts!
Sure, ma’am. That will be $10.
Brenda!
This look is great, but as you already noted the scarf definitely made you look like a flight attendant (remind me to tell you the story of a dress I made one time). I have a ton I mean LOTS of these scarves…I am happy to give them to you. I love scarves. :-} L.
I think though, Brenda, you hit the nail on the head with the idea of the “Inspiration” Calendar. Yes, you can try to come as close as you can to the picture, or you can draw on it to use what you have, and that is true inspiration. Sometimes it works, and sometimes, not so much. But it’s fun to watch you try new things and see how you have grown. And even moreso that it’s, for the most part, stuff you find secondhand. Plus, you’ve inspired others, including me. Keep up the good work!
I actually kind of think you could have worn a statement necklace with this outfit – if you had worn it under your shirt and high enough around your neck for it to show. I definitely think these pants are flattering on you!
