Inspiration Calendar – Stripes UNDER sheath dress?? Not!
April 13, 2010Hello! It’s a new week, and a new opportunity to find out what kind of great outfits I can pull together using the Inspiration Calendar. The IC has actually turned my closet from a cesspool of unrelated chaos into the “land of opportunity” of incredible outfits.
OK, now after I’ve pumped up the IC as the be-all-end-all saving grace for me, today’s suggested outfit is evidence that it is definitely not perfect. A striped shirt UNDER a sheath dress? Really?
So I declared today opposite day, and I wore a stripes over the sheath dress. What do you think?
You’re going to love it even more when you see how much it cost:
Sweater: Ann Trinity $11.99 (Fashion Junction)
Dress: Ann Taylor $5.89 (Goodwill)
Shoes: Ellen Tracy $3.59 (Goodwill)
Necklace: $6 (Plato’s Closet)
Total Cost: $27.47
I love this outfit, and I’m going to give it a 5 (check out my Rating System here).
I think everything works here – the fit, the colors, the dress length, the COST, even the pose isn’t as dorky as usual!
Guess what happens tomorrow?? I get my hair cut!

I definitely like the stripes on the outside of the dress! It looks too constricting to wear something under the dress.
I know – event the example looks odd. I’ve seen it work before, a shirt UNDER a dress, but definitely not here. Thanks, Jeri, for the comment!!
I would also give it a “5″ (and agree that the stripes under the sheath dress is a horrible combination – who came up with that one?!). This outfit is very flattering and I love the necklace with it – good job!!
Thanks Vicki!! I just picked up that necklace for $6, and I have a feeling I’m going to wear the heck out of it!!!
I give the outfit a 5 too. You look so put together.
Thanks, Lesa!! I knew I loved that striped cardigan, but I just didn’t know how to wear it. Sheath dresses and cardigans are a combo I’m going to have to stick to!!
I give this a 5 too! Your figure is fantastic, you have got to stop covering it up with boxy jackets- this sweater really shows off your tiny waist!
Wow – thanks Melissa!! This sounds silly, but I really feel almost “reborn” or like there’s a whole world of dressing opportunities for me that I’ve never tried, because I’ve always wanted to cover up my body, and escape into boxy, baggy clothes….so thanks for the encouragement!!
that doesn’t sound silly at all- sounds like me a little bit when I discovered fashion blogs lol
