Impulse alert!! Advice needed!

July 18, 2010

I am so in love with this purse:  the Big Buddha Mia purse.

As in all my major decisions, it’s time for me to do a pro and con list:

Cons:

1.  A co-worker owns this purse – that’s when I noticed it.  Unfortunately, we do not have a warm and fuzzy relationship, and I’m pretty sure showing up with it one day would be pretty awkward.   Of course, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, but I’m just not sure this co-worker would see it that way.   So I wouldn’t really be able to take it to work – it would have to be a weekend bag.

2.  Not surprisingly, I love the pink one, which happens to be the color this co-worker has.  But I could also live with the yellow one.

3.  $62.99 is a ton of money to spend on a purses!

4.  It’s very seasonal, and I would be limited to carrying it for only 2 seasons.

5.  I am not a purse person, really.  I could live without it.

Pros

1.  Isn’t it ADORABLE!

2.  LOVE IT!

3.  It’s literally calling to me…..look at the picture of it again, and turn up the sound on your speakers……if you listen closely, I really think you can hear “Buy me Brenda!!  Buy me Brenda!”

4.  I only have 6 purses.  Don’t you think I owe it to myself to buy another?

So what do you think?  I know – let’s have a poll!!

  1. I spent more on a purse. I’m just not sure what the purse looks like that you want to buy.

  2. Marie – go back to the post, and I’ve put a photo of it…..

  3. Of course you should buy it, Brenda. It’s sooooo YOU! I’m sure it’s not sooooooo your coworker!

  4. If you can afford it, buy it.

  5. Very cute. It’s not a hugely pricey purse, but I’d wait til it went on sale.

  6. Brenda – Put on your Secondhand Shopaholic hat, and head to Marshall’s, Ross or TJ Maxx and see if they have a cute knock-off. Can’t wait to see what you decide!

  7. Brenda,

As I see it (especially given the price and the fact that you will barely use it this year — Spring is sprung and Fall is getting ready to drop), I would pass. Cute purse, especially if they have it in red! Your work mate has nice tastes… If you’re not a purse person, however, you will tire of it quickly and wonder what you were thinking when you spent that money! Remember the yellow jacket?

  8. Our local flea market had a knock off of this in purple, pink or white for $25. I have to tell you that the flower has so many ridges that get dirty very easily if you set the bag down somewhere dusty. I resisted, went on to other stands and found a purse that made me even happier. So the moral of my tale: keep looking, find flea markets, keep it on the your list of things to look for at Goddwill and I bet you’ll find one even CUTER! Resist the full price one, you’ll regret it when you find another bag you love!

    • Thanks for the advice, Jan! I didn’t think about the ridges getting dusty, and you are so right about waiting until I find something even better. The purse I carry now is a Liz Claiborne, and it only cost $15, and I love it.
