Red Coats – a closer look!

September 13, 2010

Hello!

My last post – The Big Clean Out Begins, elicited some great feedback – including the need to see my jackets closer.  So this post is kind of a repeat of the last one, just more of an individual breakdown of my 6 red jackets – be honest and brutal if necessary – I can take it!

#1 Casual double-breasted; cotton/spandex mix

#2 Black-trimmed holiday jacket

#3 Ann Taylot boyfriend blazer

#3 Ann Taylot boyfriend blazer

#4 Zippered Jacket - suede-like jacket

#5 Jones New York wool suit jacket

#5 Jones New York wool suit jacket

#6 Cropped no-label jacket - polyester blend, casual and lightweight

And here’s a good review, and the poll….

  1. Perhaps I am overstepping my bounds- but of the 6, I only think 3 fit you- #1, #4, and #5. #2 and #3 are overwhelming on your figure- and #6 just doesn’t look quite right to me. The question I would ask myself if I were you- how often have I worn ANY of these red coats? If the answer is a very low number, then I would really think hard about their place in my closet.

When looking at ANYONE’s wardrobe, I think the most important thing is to make sure that what you have fits and looks good on your figure. Anything else might as well leave to make room for something that DOES fit lol!

I am in a similar process with my wardrobe. I am trying to reduce quantity, but more importantly I am trying to make sure that what I have fits, works with the rest of my wardrobe, and that I like it enough to want to wear it/use it.

Thank you so much for allowing us to see and comment on such a personal journey! I really enjoy your blog- you are transforming in front of our eyes! :)

  2. #1- This one if fabulous! Love the colour and fit on you. KEEP!

#2- This one has to go. Its too big and outdated.

#3- This one has potential. Its definitely too big, but if you like it and can afford to have it taylored, I think it’d be nice.

#4- I like the fit and colour on you, but it is a bit casual. If you like it and feel good in it, keep it

#5- Colour and fit seem to work, but I’m not a fan of the neck and lack of collar. Maybe try wearing it with a black belt to take the eye away from the collar.

#6- I like it. But, I’d maybe try wearing it unbuttoned, with a longer, fairly tight fitting top under.

  3. I think you should let #2 go first- its not nearly as flattering as some of the others. I honestly dont care much for the first bunch (#1,#2,#3) #1 is just kind of blah when you compare it with the good ones, #2 is oversized and dated and #3 just looks way too big and baggy- doesnt show off your great figure! I like the last 3, especially the sueded one! You should be very proud of yourself for taking on this huge task and you’ll have a great wardrobe when you’re done!

  4. 1. Color and fit are nice, style is not the best for you. Get rid of it.
    2. This is what non-petite jackets look like on me. Get rid of it.
    3. Ditto. It’s a little big in the shoulder area.
    4. Keep it. Looks like it would be fun for fall.
    5. Much nicer fit and flatters your waist. Keep.
    6. Might want to keep this one and experiment with it– like with skirts, if it’s decently-made on the inside. I wouldn’t be married to it, though.

  5. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! You are all awesome, and I love the feedback!! It’s very liberating to get permission to let things go, if that makes sense!!!

  6. I’m surprised so many people liked #2. I had a jacket like that in the early 90s and got rid of it years ago. It’s too long and makes your legs look short. My favorites were #5 and #6. I picked #5 as my favorite because it hits at a good place on your hips and is slimming. I would only wear #6 with a bootcut or wide leg pant to balance out your silouette. The rest of the jackets are too big and/or outdated.
