Now there’s something you don’t see everyday. A sweater for $3.89?
No – one of my receipts with only one item purchased.
And here’s the sweater I bought that day:
Sweater: Christopher & Banks $3.89
Navy Dickie: White Stag $2.29
Jeans: Levis $4.59
Boots: Transit $6.59
Total Cost: $17.36
I love this sweater – and it is a total coincidence that I found it (or rather, it found me, which what I think happens sometimes).
Because, and this is a true story, just a couple of days before I bought it, I was out with a group of women, and one woman was wearing a sweater just like this – a nice cardigan with hand embroidered hearts all over it. I can’t say if it was this exact sweater, but it was pretty close. (I think mine is actually cuter).
This woman always wears the coolest sweaters – and they always look very expensive. I remember thinking to myself that I’d probably never find a sweater that nice – a hand-embroidered heart cardigan - at Goodwill. I didn’t even put it on my wish list, because I thought there wasn’t a chance I’d find it.
And then two days later, when I was doing a recon visit at the Goodwill store near my house, I just happened to walk by the sweater section and found this beautiful sweater, waiting for me. Like I said, it found me – because there was really no reason for me to be in the sweater section – I was looking for shoes and coats.
So I bought it. And like the houndstooth sweater from Smart and Simple, I like this one so much, I probably would have bought it retail had I seen it. It’s a classic that will stay in my wardrobe for a very long time.
That’s one thing about sweaters – I feel I have enough in my wardrobe now, that I really don’t need to shop for them. But occasionally I’ll come across a statement sweater that I love so much I have to have it. And for $3.89, there is no buyer’s remorse.
Which leads me to the photos below. Last year I came across one of the sweaters below in a boutique in Valley Junction. I loved it, and I obsessed about it for weeks. Literally weeks. It was $60, and that is way out of my price range for a sweater.
But then one day I received a little bonus money that I wasn’t expecting, so I went to the boutique and bought the sweater.
I’ve worn it once. I’m totally not in love with it anymore. I have extreme buyer’s remorse. Can you guess which one it is?
The other five were purchased at Goodwill for $3.89. My point is, it’s just as easy to fall in love with a sweater for $3.89 as it is for $60. In fact, I think I love my Houndstooth and Hearts even more, because I didn’t affect my budget as harshly as the boutique sweater.
Now there’s some “wool” for thought.
